COMPANY MANAGER, CHOREOGRAPHER, LIGHTING DESIGNER, VISUAL ARTIST

MEREDITH CABANISS (Choreographer, Rehearsal Director, Lighting Designer, Dancer) Meredith Cabaniss is a multi-creative artist based out of southern California. She graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BFA in Dance. During her studies she was a Regent’s Scholar; member of the UCSB Dance Company; and received undergraduate honors including an Undergraduate Research Award for her departmental Honor’s Project, the Corwin Award for choreography, and other departmental awards. During her time at UC Santa Barbara, Ms. Cabaniss also studied with Batsheva Dance Company and obtained her 200-hr CYT in Vinyasa yoga. After graduating, she continued her studies at Dance Education Laboratory at the 92Y in New York City and at Loyola Marymount University.

As the founder of Santa Barbara-based company selah dance collective, Meredith has produced and presented works throughout the United States in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City as well as abroad in Europe and Asia. Her work has been commissioned by the University of California, Santa Barbara, Mendocino College, and Elevated Dreams Aerial Performance Group. Ms. Cabaniss also currently serves as artistic director of Növus Dance Project in Los Angeles and assistant director and resident choreographer for Nebula Dance Lab in Santa Barbara. She travels internationally and nationally as a dance educator while pursuing her MFA in Dance at Hollins University in conjunction with Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, the Frankfurt University for Music and the Performing Arts, and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company (formerly the Forsythe Company).
